Need advice for fishing spots in NW Washington

Hello all,

I just bought a vacation home in Birch Bay. I need some advice for fishing opportunities in the area. The surronding areas are birch bay, drayton harbor, and bellingham. I would even travel to Vancouver.

I am will take a boat up there sooner or later. But for now am looking for charters or public landings or boat ho.

THanks,

Jonathan

Lots of opportunities in the Puget Sound area. I've fished Patos Island a bunch when I lived in Bellingham. Explore, have fun, and give all of us lots of good reports!

It is more or less done now unless you want to hit the rivers. There will be a good blackmouth fishery this winter. In April, I would make the run out to the east strait to fish halibut or do yourself a favor and buy a canadian license so you have access to all their resources. Lingcod fishing and prawning starts in May. There are lots of places to find lings up there and if you are a diver, it is even better. Peapod rocks, Parker Reef, Clements Reef, boundary buoy....you name it. Lots of fishy structure and fun to dive.

Contact Whalerone. He lives in Ferndale and fishes that area pretty hard. Also get a Nexus pass so you can come and go into Canada. Then a Can. liscense and enjoy the fishing, shrimping, etc on the other side of the line with much more generous seasons.

You don't need a nexxus pass if you don't touch Canadian soil or anchor just FYI.

That is true, but that means you have to come home everyday and he may not want to do that.

Jonathan, welcome to the area, you are in a great spot. I live about 5 miles from Birch Bay. I fish up here year round, including all of Canadian Gulf Islands. We will have to get together for a cold one! I would get a Nexus, (or the I68 pass) it is well worth it . Send me a pm, I will hook you up.

Pick up one of the Fish 'n Maps for the area. You can find them online Welcome to Fish-n-Map Co. - Producers of freshwater and saltwater fishing maps for structure fishing . They're a good start to get you in the general areas.
