No reason to hate on SC just because we have great weather and fishing seasons. Lets keep it snivel. I mean civil. The majority will keep thier fish properly and the minority just doesn't know and is learning

Many people from south of the CAL/MEX boarder in the Klamath Falls area too. I have several friends whose families came from south of the CAL/MEX boarder, some many generations ago, some not so many. One just became a citizen last year, another is my son's godfather. Like all people, most are good some aren't.

Also, it is a lot harder to ice down the cows (like in Mexico)....just a wet towel and the washdown pump seems to work...don't know what that does to the quality.

Are albies more susceptible than other tunes?
1. Yup.

2. Most of the long range boats have pretty sizeable below decks coolers with chilled brine spray setups, so the cows get taken care of pretty well.

3. No, just more plentiful. All the Socal types have plenty of ice onboard for the fishies.....remember, whilre we may run 40-60 miles out, down there, that can be only 1/2 way to the grounds. Dumping grounds, Lower 500, Boomerang- all 80+ miles 1 way from San Diego. They need to keep the fish chilled longer......

fish are fish regardless of location and need to be treated properly to ensure quality. I and all my buddies in so cal always carried plenty of ice and most cut fish on the grounds and got into iced coolers as soon as possible (in perfect conditions filet as you catch...still kicking...but sometimes the bite is too good for that...hate it when that happens

Charter boats vary and some are better than others and i have had bad fish that were already starting to smell when I was prepping for the freezer (a shame). One cool thing in WP that I never had access to in so cal (sure you can find it somewhere) is the salt ice from the chutes... a little goes a long way and keeps the fish very cold...and boy does it chill a warm beer in a hurry. Not to mention it will stay in a cooler for a week or so...amazing...I plan on trying to get that in the holds for every trip if possible but seems like the guy is no talways there...timing is everything.....jsk

You got that right JSK, the shaved ice is far superior. We had to wait for them to show up, Mike called the day before and they said someone would be there between 5:30 and 6:00, he showed around 6.

That was the best ice I've ever seen, all day long I don't think it really melted at all, and cold as a sonofabitch! Painful, even. Well worth the $50 he charged, plus he forked the bin right up to the boat wherever we wanted so we could shovel it in. The only way to go!

IMHO

Northwet fisherpersons are fanatical about many aspects of long fin fishing.

Cooling a fish is one thing, bringing home a pop sickle is yet another. Ain't nobody on a private boat gots the bucks to set up a real RSW let alone a freezer. Cool the fish with what ya got. ifen all ya got is a wet gunny sack that's better than leaving 'em out is the sun. But riskin' life and limb to carry 400 to 800 pounds of ice 50 miles out ain't worth no fish on this earth.

Next topic-- Spectra---Who in the world ever said spectra was needed to Long fin? Trolling or casting? Talk about overkill.

Daisy chains/spreader bars--- You gotta be fuckin' kidding me. Now this is overboard.

Two speed reels-- Holy shit these guys would bring a canon to a knife fight.

Case in point please view the attached link and comment on all these Stoopid fisherpersons and what rigs they are using.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2Z0oEm7pZI

I lived in Santee for many years and I've fished both east and west oceans the gulf and the Baja and the islands way west of us (I'd try to spell it but then some spelling Nazi would have make a smart ass comment) and in MHO Northwet fishermen rank #3 in going overboard. It's a crap shoot if bass fishermen or fly fishermen should be #1.
