2. 1 boat in the process of sinking. good thing the CG carries an extra pump.
3. 1 boat with no main motor.

First post, new to the board. Been up there lots of times and it would not take a lot to make a small issue into a BIG problem...Really, the conditions are not that bad out there today. I suspect we have all been in worse at Neah Bay or LaPush.

One of the three men did not survive. RIP my boating brother.
Reports coming in from the boats returning to La Push today have the water conditions much nastier and larger then those reported by the nearest buoys.

I am a local, long-time small boat sport fisherman out of La Push - I was out there today, against my better judgement because my friends came from a long way to fish
the reason to stay home was the SE/SW winds forecast - that causes you to cross or even face the seas on the way back from the halibut grounds - conditions were not more than forecast nor greater than the Cape Elizabeth buoy reports, wind waves were ~2-4' and often steep, with 6-7' swell - it was rainy, rough and nasty out there and there were obviously too many folks unprepared
we limited early and headed back and were 5 miles E of the halibut grounds (that took 45 minutes!) before the radio started going off with the building trouble - it was wicked listening to it, my stomach is still in knots (including from our rough, but ok ride in) - Coast Guard, charter boat operaters, and other boaters sounded like they performed at a high level but there were lots of incidents and the ocean is merciless - I am deeply saddened that a life was reported lost to that capsizing), hopefully that will prove to be untrue as there may have been another fatality due to a heart attack that was airlifted to Forks hospital and I heard (thru the grapevine, possibly also not true) that the victim did not survive
anyway - let's be safe out there and take care of one another...

Thanks for the welcoming words guys..looks like a good forum to exchange valuable info. Bummer about the guy dying..I have been out there many times in poor conditions thinking what would happen if the engine quit or I lost steering..You have to be careful but it is easy to get overconfident.
