Winter Crab Season

What's the deal with the winter crab season? I know some of you guys have "ins". What is the word? Are they having problems trying to figure out how to count the plethera of summer catch record cards and administering fines to those that didn't turn their's in? Are they going to delay the season because they don't have the resource to count quota (as was the case for last year's east strait hali. season).

I want some fresh crab, dammit.

Area 13 is open. I had good results last November there.

I have seen nothing yet..the last 2 years they announced right around now with an opener on Nov 15th if I recall correctly.

The winter season is in many ways better. No crowds, full hard crab.

Lets hope they do the right thng.

I thought I remembered Nov 2nd, 4th openers. I am looking forward to the same, though. No crowds, hard crab, good eats.

Simple, they are giving all the remainder of the sport catch to the commercials. You should see the pots up here... positively fucked. The water is littered with commercial floats and once again.. the sports get fucked....

Tommy do you mind traveling? Might be putting together a trip in a few weeks to Oregon for the late season bay crabbing, just before they green-light the commercials.

Try crabbing in the Columbia in the estuary, fish out of Chinook or Ilwaco, no Oregon license required. I have a friend that does this every year, normally in Nov. Talk on I fish is limits......good luck......Chuck G

Crabbing is on fire on the Canal right now, if you can keep the tribes from checking your pots for you. I was getting 8-9 inchers before hunting season started.

Although my overnight soaks sucked because for some reason when you soak all night in an area where the tribes are netting,.......welll lets just say your shit ain't in the same exact spot when you come back. Started doing 2-3 hour soaks and had loaded pots.

Im gunna start again next week after hunting season so Ill be able to give an updated update.

And BM fishing might be goo to...

At the public comment meeting several of attended a couple of weeks ago, the crab manager said that the summer season was excellent and there wasn't much left for winter (if any). I wouldn't be getting too amped for winter crab as it will likely not happen.
