Question Salmon weight calculator

I found this link on another site. The guy who posted it claims accuracy of +-3% using the (mean weight) based on 75 Kings and Silvers that he had taped and weighed.

Take the length from the tip of nose to the center of the "V" on the tail and girth just forward of the dorsal fin.

fish weight charts estimate

What do you think?

That sounds about as accurate as the halibut tables have been.

All kidding aside, I have caught so many salmon that were similar in length and way different in girth that I doubt a sampling that small would be very accurate.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, but I am a skeptic until I can prove it myself.

it actually has been pretty accurate, we used this when I was a kid for trout, I think its really meant for catch and release. If their going in the box, then I use a real scale. Just not a rust ol POS like at Olsons in Sekiu.....lol

girth in inches squared times the length in inches divided by 800 will get you within 10%.

You could ONLY get this answer from a fisherman/teacher.

For the catch and release .................... I just use my digital hand scale..........seems to work pretty well without de-slimeing the fish.
