| Planning A TRIP
In the first week of August I am Driving my boat up to Washington to take a few kids up from California who kept a "B" average durring last school year to try a little Salmon fishing close to the San Juan area.
I was going to camp on Lopez island however the cost to ferry my truck and boat would be over 300 dollars.
Are there any recomendations on mainland costal campsites that have a launchramp nearby and decent fishing?
Any recomendations would be appreciated.

Unless you are going to the San Juans for the sights also you might think about fishing the Columbia River near Astoria for salmon it should be red hot fishing and alot closer. But the San Jauns are pretty cool and worth the extra time to check out.

Check out Washington Park in Anacortes. Nice campsites, good launch (on a zero tide plus) and only 10 minutes from town. It's on the west end of the island (no ferry boat), and fairly convenient to a number of fishing and crabbing opportunities.

| If you want to have a great experience with the kids take a tent and camp on Sucia, Macia or Clark Islands. You can put in at Bellingham or Anacortes. We boat camp out there almost every year and it is great. I am not sure if you can get reservations. We always go with a group and reserve a big site. |

Probably your best bet is Todd's idea... The launch at Cornet Bay is good and there is an RV park at the intersection of hiway 20 and Cornet Bay as well (North Whidbey RV Park)..Deception Pass is great!
You're going to be anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes away from fishing, but local crabbing is fantastic.

Either that or Sequim Bay is always nice, theres a nice state park just up the Highway from John Wayne Marina. Can't go wrong with Coronet bay either. Top notch sights. I liked the interaction with the local people and got more information in Sequim though. If you do your home work you can find some great spots maped out on different websites out there.

Coronet Bay for sure! Been down there the last few days in a row. Not too packed and there is a RV park and a State Park to camp at just down the road.

Also, a little south on Whidbey is Fort Casey State park. It is first come basis, but the exploring at the park could be some fun for kids. Washington State Parks Home Page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Casey
