Alright here is the current state of affairs, deciding on what to do up top.

An old friend here in Spokane that fished Neah and Westport for 40 years was pushing me pretty hard to go with a full cabin enclosure, leaving the aft door off and closing it with canvas. It leaves me with a non-self-bailing deck, but using 4 bilge pumps (more on that later) I think having the cockpit be 30" deep might be pretty nice.

Here are the two options:

Aft slanted windshield...

Forward slanted windshield...

Opinions?

Yo Eric. Been thinking about the rails. In the back fishing area use 3 or 4 inch od tube, more comfortable than 2 inch or less when leaning up against them. Ck the scrap yards. Up on the sides for walking forward smaller like one inch is for the hands. Looking forward to learing something here, keep the updates coming.

Opinion/thought:

Lots of wood topside = extra weight. Drop in fuel economy, potential topheaviness (instability) etc.

ever think about one of these:

Less weight, ease of installation, etc....

Pete you got any ideas of how to mate that with a V berth forward?

The cabin sides will be 3/8" ply, windows will be polycarbonate, roof will be 1/4" ply laminated over 3/4" foam for light weight.

Not off the top of my head... as Pacific has a cuddy pilothouse option, perhaps it could be mounted on a raised decking (as you're doing) and then design a lower cabin around it.....

They're in Oregon (manufacturing)...you may want to give them a call...

So the plan is hardtop shaped like the CR Pilot boats (sloped cuddy, fwd sloped windshield), NO walkaround, std west coast style cabin. Tankage hopefully around 60-70 gallons. One fishbox at 50"x 24"x 10-16".

Started on the guts today, getting all the fir plywood covered in glass so she doesn't rot:
