Sekiu/Neah advice for SoCal fisherman???

Hey Guys

I am fishing with a friend of mine from Seattle on Tommycod Charters in Neah Bay this Friday. I am strictly Southern California, so I am curious about what to expect. I emailed the captain, and he said I didn't need to bring any fishing gear. Do you all agree? What about foul weather gear? How's the weather and water conditions look for the end of this week? Anyone know that particular boat? Anything you want to tell me would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bring rain gear, deck boots, a camera, cash, and some lunch....Tom Young is a good fisherman and has all the gear you will need. I fished with him years ago out of Neah and it all went smooth. His boat is a 36ft old bar hopper boat that rides well and is very sea worthy. Tom Jr. was his deck hand when I went and was a nice guy too. The weather towards the end of the week is starting to look a bit spory but it's too early to be sure. So Cal. style, I wear poly light long johns under shorts, under rain gear and definetely layer. Beanie is a good idea.....Shades even if it isn't sunny....
Have fun!

I agree with KillerBee... you're going to want rain gear (not cheap stuff either) and you'll want some good rubber-soled shoes/boots. I'd bring a beanie/stocking hat, and some gloves. Wear layers under your rain gear, so you can easily add/remove as needed. Will be chilly in the AM, but the fishing should warm you up. I usually just wear jeans this time of year under my rain pants, but I wear a t-shirt, a sweat shirt, another light jacket/flannel shirt and my rain coat. I don't like cold feet, so I wear wool socks in my boots. Being from SoCal, you'll probably think it's FREEZING up-here, and you can pretty much bet on rain.

Here is the marine forcast for the week..about normal for this time of year. The guys are right on about the rain gear and boots. You might want to bring some lighter gear for ling cod and rockfish, the charter guys usually go in for overkill. You are early for King salmon but you will slam the bottom fish.

Never been on that boat but it looks like a rugged craft.

Scott,

I just got back from back to back weekends out of Sekiu. The weather has been off and on. The forecasters cant seem to get it right. Like Dave said dress in layers and overkill it. Its easier to cool off than to warm back up. Pack some handwarmers to stuff in your gloves and dont forget the beanie. We caught a lot of fish and Tommy will find them for you.
