It's actually really good. Excellent redfish, speckled trout, flounder and black drum inshore and off shore are the snapper spots, great kingfish and if you make the run out to the stream the sailfish and white marlin are there.

My partners when I fished the kingfish tourney's kept their boat in St. Mary's and we'd usually launch from there....

Weather

Jason - sort of a broad question. What time of year? Other than knowing anything more, I'll tell you that it's the same as NC and SC coastline - warm to bloddy hot in summer, cool in spring and fall, and a little cooler than Fla east coast in winter. Summer storms on any given day.

It's a fairly good sized coastline so your question also needs some more definitive information about where you might actually go.

I am interested in this question as well. I was wondering if you guys get a full 12 month fishing season like we do down in FL. As well as the Carolinas I may be relocating soon for work, trying to decide between Eastern seaboard or the Gulf coast of AL. Obviously fishing is as important as anything else if not more so

I used to gig flounder in Nassau Sound and slay the speckled trout year around and especially in the winter. That's where I honed my skills with gigging... Unlike the west coast, it's less seasonally affected. There are definitely good or better times to fish inshore, but it's never "turned off" like it is here. Aside from a kingfish trip or two, I've never fished offshore there.

A lot of inshore options. A LONG run out to the deep stuff though.

Y'all forgot about the sharks! Excellent shark fishery, many and varied!.......and occassional tarpon too (but tough fishin' in dirty water)! But, like said, unless you've got lots of fuel bluewater's out!

Caught some nice tarpon and really nice bull reds right around the bars on the ocean side of Cumberland Island. It is a long long ride to the edge. Made it a few times and fishing is always good but you are looking at a good 70 if not more mile run and thats from the tip of the beach. Grays Reef has an excellent King Mack fishery with also many other species...Its in about 100 feet and is a bout a 40 mile run but lots of species.

Friends of mine embark out of Savanah to the stream very regularily:70-100 miles. Most guys have fountains and contenders to make these runs at 50 mph. But they seem to catch more dorado than anything else as billfish and tuna are really hit and miss. Mini black sea bass (14") is what they usually load up on the way back for the table.

I just got back from a trip down to GA shark fishing. A buddy of mine lives in near Brunswick which is just inland of St. Simon's Island.

The tarpon fishing is decent as well as shark, bull red, flounder, trout.

Just about every night when I was down there in July we'd get a good run floating outgoing off St. Simon's or Jekyl Island's piers.

Stingrays are THICK, just become a nuisance eventually. Caught one in the 120lb range same trip.

I certainly wasn't dissapointed. Wouldn't mind living down there. Ocean moderates the temps a little too. Doesn't seem to get as hot (still hot though) as it does few hours inland.
