Greetings Uluastick,

I recommend you keep your money and spend it fishing Southern Cal and Mexico. I just left Guam a couple days ago. Fishing was lousy. Helped out at a tournament last weekend, fishing was exteremly slow.

This time of year, the marlin come in, and small yellow fin tuna. Just a little too early for an expensive charter ride.

Good luck if you do go.

Mel, thanx for your response.I'm going there with my girlfriend to visit her family. Was just wanting to fish while there for a day or so.I've never fished the tropics before and would just love being on the water there. When does the fishing pick up there typically?

Greetings Uluastick,

Normally in the summer, small yellow fin tuna show up. Fish are in the
5 - 20 pound range. You find the birds, you find the fish.

Mahi mahi may show up again. This year's run on mahi mahi was early and short. Just maybe!

Good luck again, Mel

I was born and raised on Guam and fished there a lot. My dad had a boat and knew a lot of the local fisherman. I can recommend Mr. Tenbata of Ten Boat Charters. He's been fishing there for a long time and caters to many of the Japanese tourist. He's got good knowledge of all the trolling spots and also bottom-fishing. Summer is usually best to fish b/c the weather cooperates and most of the gamefish bite - marlin, yellowfin, bonita, and rainbow runners. I'd also do a longer trip b/c I would suggest you make a run at Rota Banks. The half-day stuff will keep you close to the island and fishing can be hit or miss. My father and him knew each other well while on Guam. My family moved out of Guam 15 years ago. Tell him Kashima sent you. He'll get a kick out of it.
