| Ar....kansas bass fishing
Had a week off and went back to Clintonville to visit with my pops. He lives on Hamilton lake just on the skirt of Hot Springs. Spent several days cuttin' timber, shoveling gravel, electrical work......etc....
The trade off was whenever we got tired we just went fishing.
Lake Hamilton is a finger lake (imagine that) with all sorts of quiet coves, small feeder creeks and the like everywhere.
We would just jump in the boat and fish wherever we ended up.
Had a guide for one morning and learned a lot and remembered a lot watching him and talking with him.
Right now the lake temp is hovering in the upper 60's to low 70's. The spring spawn is over there were not many fish in the grass and weeds.
The bite is an early topwater shallow bite with cordell redfin minnow or a bomber in minnow, twitched on top, shallow, foot or less water depth.
About 9:00am it moves into a medium water bite 20-30 foot using a worm or woolly slow twitched or pick and drop 3 foot swings to keep the bait moving.
Evening bite nearly the same as morning.
1-2lb were largemouth the main target.
The Walmart Bass tournament was there over last weekend and friday night the leader was at 16lbs of fish or so as I 'member it. Tough pickings on the largemouth on this lake at this time of year. It's all about patience. Lot's of it.
If you go, fish the points and angles and don't be afraid of fishing right up against the seawalls. We had several hits after banging it on the wall or a boat dock or what have you. If you haven't bass casted to a spot in awhile, you may want to bring lot's of extra baits. Or make 'em weedless to get them back out of the trees.
If you don't get hung a couple of times you ain't close enough.
Only had one thunderstorm all week.
