Yak fishing off the beach has really taken off this fall. I've done it for a couple of years (albeit irregularly--I'm no expert), but it's now not uncommon to have a dozen or more yaks in the water at once.
I took the whole family today. Boys took turns (oldest first) in the yak. We used a hotrodded jigmaster and a longbeach 65, catching both fish on the former. 16/0 circle hook with a short length of cable (sharks possible), and a leader of heavy mono; 30# mono. No weights: throw a chunk of fresh dead mullet or shad out and leave it. Today it was three finger mullet on the hook, because the bigger ones are off-limits during the spawn.
It was pretty choppy today. We got there at noon and missed the really hot fishing, but did get two in a couple hours of fishing. Listened to the Pogues and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes on the way home... it's a real blessing not to have any Hanna Montana fans in the house. MTX, Agent Orange, Motorhead, hell yes.
I can't get the attachment manager to work, but the pics are posted here:
