Talking Reel Adventure TROUT, REDFISH, and POGYS! 3/26/06

Carolina Beach Report..

We have had the bay boat in the water breaking in the motor (hats off to Suzuki and Saltwater Marine for the new heads and power head!). The weather was nice today so we brought along some rods and were suprised with all the action we had. We ran to the dredge pond and after 2 throws we had all the pogy's we needed. It was awesome to see pogys in the live well again! From there we ran to our next spot and picked up 2 trout immedietly. As luck would have it the trout would not touch the live bait, they fell for the Gulp! shrimp under a popping cork instead. The tide was almost dead low and as the tide went slack the bite came to a screeching halt. We picked up from there and ran to Carolina Beach Inlet in hopes of a few light tackle bluefish but they did not cooperate. We headed south to John' creek and made a few passes with the live pogys on a carolina rig. It was pretty slow then a rod bent double and it was on. We figured it was a shark the way it was fighting but a NICE redfish came to the surface after about a 5 minute fight and then broke us off. From what we could tell it was a nice over the slot fish. We stuck around for a little bit longer and I pulled up a small red on my ultra light rod. Nice red on a ultra light rod = LOTS OF FUN! After a few more passes we moved back inshore to captalize on the moving tide at our trout spot. We picked off around 10 more trout but they were all small! Not the greatest day on the water but it was a lot better than anticipated!

Offshore the Kings are in the 20-30 mile range dependeing on the water temp. The warmer the weather the closer in you will find them. The false albacore are mixed in around the 15 mile range and the bonito should be here VERY SOON!

Each week is getting better and better!
