The scenery there is just too beautiful to put a hook in the water. Go waterskiing instead. Have some drinks at Chuy's on the water, or go downtown to 5th and 6th street. Don't miss the SaltLick BBQ though... Cuda would move there if he knew how great it was.

Ditto what coryellk said.
Lake Austin is difficult for access, almost all private residences on shoreline.
Couple boat launches. Pretty good largemouth population.
Travis is 37' low although we have had some rain this week.

ya i heard about travis... I can't believe its that low. My uncle just started a boat club in austin so getting a boat on austin isn't a problem. He has a few that are slipped. Actually a pretty good deal, he has 4 boats unlimited use for $195/mo. www.laketoysboatclub.com . They have a pontoon, 2 moomba's, and a 26' scarab..
Anyway, I would love to get after some bass on austin.. I know at night during spawn we used to KILL them. Didnt have too many nights withough a 8+ .. some over 10lbs. It was unreal, we would drift right outside the hydrilla with something big and smelly.
I would go to the bars, but I will be in town with my wife and kids so I'd like to get them on a late afternoon striper, or white bass bite... something fun. Is Lake Decker still pumping out hybrids??
Thanks guys

The kids would probably dig the Austin Children's Museum- lots of hands on kind of stuff. Phil's icehouse on Burnet Rd is a good kiddo friendly place, too.
Decker is still there but personally I don't fish freshwater much any more.
I hit the coast as often as I can.
PM if you want more info.

Didn't see this til now so hope it's not too late. I went to visit my son/daughter in law and my new grandson in Austin a couple weeks ago. Did some research and ended up fishing Fayette County Reservoir for 2 days (a powerplant lake of about 2600 acres, the size of Castaic or Big Bear Lake basically) and it's about a 1 hr 10 min drive from Austin (located just east of La Grange).
Upon some recommendations, got hooked up with a guide named Mark Fransen Fransens Guide Service,www.fishfearme.biz (his phone # is on the web page or you can book online but I'd suggest calling) and man, am I glad I ended up with him at that body of water! I can't say enough about the time I had on the water with him! I had my 12 yr old daughter with me day 1 and my Son that lives in Austin day 2. The main thing is this guy knows that lake and the conditions and how to adjust. We fucked em up and the quality was very good. Buzzbaits and frogs, 10'' worms, brush hogs, spoons (wide open for over 2 hours on day 2 in 60 feet of water on mostly 2 to 3 lb fish with fish to 4lbs) and I brought part of my swimbait arsenal and had a ripper bite on day 2 where I put 4 fish in the boat in a half hour to the tune of 24+ lbs! It blew his mind! We had several fish in the 6 to 7 lb range over the two days and as well as quite a few over 4 to 5 lbs.
I can't say enough about this guy and I'm not usually the complimentary type (just ask my wife). He runs a 21 foot Triton w/ a 225 hp all Lowrance color graphs (which he's real good with, he gives electronics seminars in the area). It's real good fishing right now (just talked with him last night) on buzzbaits and torpedos in the early a.m. and late in the day and a real good worm bite mid day. Lotsa grass and tules, brushpiles and some structure fishin'. Tell him Scott and Janelle sent ya and see if you can beat her almost 7lber on the buzzbait. By the way, I was blown away by the hospitality at every business I visited while in Austin and Fayette county. You'll be too. Oh, by the way Travis came up 12 feet 2 days ago with the rain. Hope this gets to you in time. Scott

Lake Travis water levels have been at an all time low. Literally one boat ramp remained. Tons of rain though in that area the last month, things should be better.
