That's 4 gig total address space with a 32 bit OS... not just ram. The bios, video memory, etc all are mapped into that 4gb. That's why you often see Vista PC's with 3gb ram. If you have 4 gb of ram you'll see less than that due to the other devices.

If you want to use more than 4GB of memory, you need to move to a 64 bit OS.

Windows Vista And 4GB Of Memory
As I said originally 4 G MAX on XP It CAN use it. Thnx

its cool, im not trying to make the arguement as though im correct, like i said im just repeating shit i overheard (thats from Jackie Brown).

The people that said this were not the masses on the blog but were mods, which doesnt mean shit. There are mods on here that probably dont know shit about fishing, let alone about tackle.

Honestly, i dont know a ton about computers, but im learning as much as i can and its empowering. I was helping my dad fix issues with his dell pent 4 with XP and was reading threads on upgrading RAM and i read that in a couple places. I dont take any of it for gospel. you are probably right. See, that was easy. ding ding ding, we have a unanimous decision.
