More challenging and fun for sure to catch the fish in close with 1/8 oz. sinker and 4# test. Best of all it doesn't matter if there is a strong current or weedy water. Just look for the fish and make short casts to them. Of course it does require some walking to each rip along the beach but that just increases your odds of catching something. No soaking a bait forever in an unproductive spot.

I say just go in with aknife and a bag forget the 15' rod or the ultralight.

it's actually a daiwa graphite composite. i've been through 4 white seahawks
and 2 graphite framed reels also. penn 9500 spinner, 11' composite, set in 6' pole stand. bloodworms work well for anything on the shore line, but, it was my son who's face lit up when he recieved his penn 8500ssm for his b-day.thinks he can compete with the old man now. would'nt go without him.
