| Lowdown on La Jolla
Just want to give all you boys the lowdown on La Jolla, of course the shores are a reserve, no fishing at all but you can fish north of the stairs, the stairs are located about 100yards south of scripps pier. But north of the stairs is a "Non-Vertabrae" sp.?fishing Reserve. Meaning you can only fish with bait that has a spine, such as anchovies, sardines, etc. and artificials are ok. No sand crabs, no squid, no mussels!!
This is strait from the D.F.G. One morning July 4th to be exact, I noticed a guy sitting in a car parked in the lot just above the stairs that go down to the beach, he checked me out pretty hard, no big deal, thought it was just another surfer gokking at a fisherman. So as I am digging for crabs with my head down some guy asks me what I catch out here, with my head down I replied nothing if I cant catch any bait. He then replied, do you know this is a reserve? I said not above the stairs as I raised my head to see a badge. Luckily he saw that I just got there and he didnt wait for me to pin on a crab and cast. He checked my license and my bait bucket witch was empty. He then gave me the lowdown on the "Reserve". He actually was really cool, I made sure I thanked him for not waiting till I caught a crab and cast it out.
