Oh man, what a day, what a day! did another corbina hunt today, this time i took my old buddy Kirby from the neighborhood here, i always tell him i'll take him fishing, finally got around to it this weekend,..talked to Ron on the phone, decided to hit up SaMo, i wanted to see if the corbs and SC's were there, i got some beans early in the season there,..i picked up my hommie and off we went, when i got off the 10 freeway to PCH passing by a cop who swooped in behind me and flashed the lights, i pulled over, he came to the car, collected all the necessary info, he asked if i know why he pulled me over, i played dumb, he said he was doing about 80 and i passed him up fast,..lol,..i apoligized, he saw all the rods and decided to give me a break, must have been an angler, God was smiling down on me this morning,...Got to the beach, rigged up the rods, Ron came down with his son Ben, we began are walk to the spot, right away we started to look for SC's, not that many, right off the bat Ron nails a 13 inch perch, sweet! we brought along are heavy duty gear for some sharking, set them up, Ron had some fresh giant squid, i had some bonito from my work, i think its bonito, it came from somewhere in asia, i figured what the hell, might as well try it,..but i put it away to bring it out when the sun comes up, so squid it was,..Kirby and I took a stroll to find some sand crabs, we hit a jackpot bed and got alot, took about 20 minutes, when we got back to camp, Ben runs up to us and says he pulled in a 4 foot SNGF, alright, good to see some action here, but it got slow and the fish were not biting much, we pulled in some here and there, my buddy got his first saltwater fish, a YFC,..that was cool,..man it was slow, no sliders at all,..finally the sun broke out and i tossed out that asian bonito, after an hour, we were all on the rocks, just chatting away, just minutes before calling a day, my clicker goes off screaming!!! i run my azz to the rod, slided right up to the rod and pulled back setting the hook hard! booyah! fish on,..the fight broke out and i was on top, it took 5 minutes to bring in the biggest Leopard Shark i've ever caught, maybe just a couple pounds heavier, but its been so long, the waves and current made it easy to bring him in, Ron kept trying to pull it in with his tail, but just couldnt get a good grasp of it, f'ker was strong,..finally got him beached and it was high fives around! the lifeguard even came over to see it, she asked if i was gonna release him, of course, just let me get some pics of it,..man it felt good to nail this Leo, man you know what, im getting tired and let me just show you guys the pics, i'll take a Leo over a corbina any day, man, looks like im gonna be doing alot more surf fishing, have a good day,..peace! |

Nice Leo. You are right, best fighting fish from the surf.
Also, I've been targeting beans in that area the last couple of weeks. Slow. Some good YFC bites though.
