| Crystal Pier 6/19 PM Wanted to fish for a couple hours so I went down to Crystal Pier with a little freshwater combo.
I had a sabiki rig on with a couple of GULP sandcrabs - I was expecting to catch some perch (as I have done numerous times). No perch to be found, though.
Met a friend who gave me some Vons-bought shrimp. I put some quartered up shrimp on the four hooks and tossed out the rig with a 1 oz torpedo sinker.
Instant bendo and up came 2 3+ pound YFC. Nice.
There was a bunch of other fishermen catching YFC with ghost shrimp and initially they were doing better than me, but that changed shortly.
One asian guy gave me a hard time about my setup and poked fun at me. I said whatever...I was just killing time waiting to pick up my kid from work. He and another guy kept laughing at my rig because it definitely wasn't the right setup for this type of fishing, but with fish, you just never know....
They proceeded to sit there and watch me pull up around 15 YFC all around 3-4 pounds while they caught nada.....
Pretty funny and a cool way to end the day.
Also got a 12" smooth hound shark on the sabiki also. Damn....those things catch everything.....
Started fishing around 4:30 and stopped at 7:15.
Hit it. It was a blast.
No camera so no pics.
What's the minimum size and limits for those fish? I gave some of the bigger ones to some of the asian guys fishing next to me, but they were keeping everything! If they caught an 8" fish - it went in their box. Just curious, but I thought it sucked to keep sucj=h a small fish and som many of them. I swear that one guy had like 30-40 and the majority of them were like 12" long and maybe 1/2 lb.
