| Release or Eat??
Surf Fishermen (and women)! I've heard both sides, but I'm even more curious now. For all those surf anglers ... Do you prefer to catch and release OR kill and eat?

C & R. I just tried BSP for the first time this week and it was terrible. Tasted like smelly seaweed. There are way too many other tasty fish out there to keep.

If I deep hook a bean thats not going to make it, I have taken them home, (not too many), they're O.K., but not what I'd want to eat all the time.
Better to let them all go. Bay fish too.
Red.

my rule of thumb is if i catch a fish i have never caught/tasted b4, i will keep it (if legal) out of curiousity. mark another notch on the bedpost. otherwise, i throw back unless a sculpin, rockfish, or calico, as I enjoy the taste usually. very fresh bsp are ok sometimes, as were parts of a recent spotfin catch. while beach camping in mexico, i lived on a diet of almost exclusively cochi (triggerfish), and caguamas (beer, that is). and if i accidentally kill one, i will either eat it or use it for bait. just tryin never to waste. my 2 cents.

C&R most of the fish. I've kept a bean or two for a fresh grilled fish dinner. They were pretty good. Kept whole, butter, lemon, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika wrapped in foil and cooked slow on the grill.

Release for me. Even legal flatties. Surf fishing is completely sport for me.
With that said I'll be eating some nice ling fillets tonight for dinner.

From the surf it is C&R off a boat I normally C&R all bass. I dont eat fish very often so when I go out on a boat I give my fish to friends or family.
