| Late report: 4/21 South MB
Got the call while shopping at Costco for grillin' goodies, to come down to the MB jetty. Had to give it a try because the tide was right and I hadn't yet been sucessful in the surf...
Showed up a little after 6pm and didn't see Bloodyboot anwhere so I scouted a nice rip in front of the lifeguard station. Made a few casts but the water was polluted with grass and kelp. Almost gave up but decided to walk a little further north and spotted Gus a few hundred yards up.
By the time I got there he had already caught and released one BSP. He had staked out a nice little rip over a bed of sand crabs.
My first few casts came up with kelp and what I thought were wave strikes. Little did I know my supposed wave hits were FISH!! Aften ten minutes or so of bumbling around I got a real solid hit and missed it!! Holy shit that was shallow!?!?!? Came up with half a grub!! I was totally stoked!! Didn't even catch the fish but now I knew what to look for!!!
I'd been ever casting the whole time!? Put on a new MORF kalin's and the very next cast, right in the surf and... WHAMMO!!! 4" freight train slams my jig!! Those little buggers hit like it's their last meal!
Gus is just as pumped as I am when I finally beach my first BSP. Dink for sure but I don't give a shit!! I'm stoked!!
It was game on after that. Farmed a bunch, caught a few and had a blast.
Gus came up with a bitchin' little Bean and I managed a walleyed surf perch in the mix as well.
What a blast. Awesome sunset and got really chilly after that. I'm hooked.
No wonder all you donkeys love surf perching so much. I can't wait to get into a bigger model. The half pints were a blat, I can't imagine what the 14" monsters are like!!!
Later,
Matt
