Cabo surf fishing?

Heading down to Cabo San Lucas Nov 13-17 to fish offshore but would also like to do some surf fishing while im there. Im staying at the Riu Palace which is on the beach so im think of just casting around out infront of the hotel. Does anyone have any experience fishing the Cabo surf? Would like to know what type of fish I can expect and watch lures would work? Also, is there any public beaches I can fish and would I need a fishing license to surf fish? So far Im thinking there might be some jacks, ladyfish and sierra off the beach to catch with kastmasters, swimbaits or poppers. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Julio

You must have a Mexican fishing Licience. Get it here!! take an extra copy one for the hotel room one for on you while fishing, on a boat or on shore. Use crocodiles, silver or with a little blue, you can catch jacks, rosters macks and small tuna, prepare to run up and down the beach. look for birds they will be active if there are fish around....Go early, right before the sun rises, you can use jerk baits and cut squid if you take some down with you. Freeze it with your ice chest. 10-12 lb test bring extra line, how far are you from the marina???? PM me when you get a chance have fun be safe!!!

Hi Julio. Good advice from Torrance, but i was under the impression that you did not need a licence for shore fishing.(I may be wrong) Well worth checking out a Dutch guy called Stephen who owns the Surf fishing shop next to the Mar-De-Cortez Hotel. He knows what is going on,sells all the popular lures plus his own range, and hires out poles and reels if you want.I am leaving for Cabo this weekend with another English guy to fish my modest boat for the Winter, just shout if you need more info.good luck.Rick.

No licence needed to fish from shore anywhere in Mexico.

solmar beach 30# test ranger casting lure in blue/white run down the beach make a cast run back up (like hell if the surf is up) wind wind wind if no fish are caught start over. but really solmar beach is one of the best bet's and the ranger type casting lure is the way to go the shop next to mar de cortez is good also minerva's also has gear for the surf. the only thing i must say is be safe on solmar beach it can get hairy out there but when it's big surf the fish go nut's and the wave's make it like a looking glass it's bitchen!!!!
good luck have a blast.
big mike.
