Damn that movie sucked! lol,.. Na, it was another adventure for my daughter and I. we set our course for north, i have never in my life been in Malibu. no idea what the surf environment or how the locals are. But we said the hell with it and went there anyways. Our first stop was point dume of course, can't head all the way north and not visit that place and do a little fishing while were there. our primary location to be is El Matador, but from what peeps say it does not open until 8 or 9. So we killed an hour at Dume, the zuma side to fish. all the was biting was wall eye perch and sand tarpons. Bounced out of there after an hour, sadly we didn't get to go up Point Dume. my bad, next time. We got to El Matador with the gates open and plenty of parking. here is some info on how to pay, you gotta get an envelope and tear off a tag that you put in your car and put $8 bucks in the envelope and slide it in a lock box. not bad but get with the times cali, lol. Now about El Matador, in my daughters word "this place is awesome" lol!!! Let me get the info about the fishing out of here quick. OMG! this place for me was hard to fish from the surf, salad every cast, some sort of thick eel grass, looked like dark brown spaghetti. there was lots of it, but the kelp beds are right there and this place is great for divers, yakkers and for me...tubers! gonna fix up my tube and hit this place next time, but let me warn you, carry less gear down with you. you'll regret it on the way up, i did lol,.. so we stopped fishing and just started exploring. Lots of small caves that my daughter thought was exciting, you can literally just post up in them and kick back for the day there, most people were doing that, get some shade and you are just feet from the water. this is like a small water park for the kids as well, looked very safe for them, the water quality is excellent! had no idea it was so much better than the ones down here. i can go on and on but you just gotta come here and visit to see for yourself how beautiful this place is. we stayed for 4 hours just relaxing and having fun, what life should be. with the sun still high in the sky we got to head down to fish at a place a lot of surf anglers recommend, Zuma! now i know why you guys like it, right away its fish on and you leave them biting, lol, whats up with that!!! but oh my God i tried my best to land a slab but these fahken palm perch just kept biting my bait! is there a trick to only landing the slabs? PM ME! we were having a great time when i noticed my little girl got quiet, i looked to see what was wrong, of course, she fell asleep,.. poor little thing, she over exhausted herself with all the swimming, climbing, running, and exploring. i called it quits right away and gave all my bait away to other anglers, oh, about the loclas! very gracious, helpful and never had a problem with anyone. looks like i will be coming up here a lot more from now on. i want to do some more fishing and have the rest of my family check it out as well, i know the twins will have a blast at El Matador. check out my pics and 3 youtube videos of matador, peace!!!
