| Fishing HB/Bolsa Chica A little help??
So I went out a couple times and got skunked! Today I decided to go and give it another shot.Fished at 1 for 2 ours at the Bolsa river jetties with no luck. So I packed it in. Went out later at 7pm when the wind died down and tide got higher in front of the jack in the box off of PCH and ended up with 3 decent sized Perch. Here is my question though because I have been basically guessing on how to fish the gulp, camo worm. And what tide is best?
2 inch pieces Carolina rigged and a 3/4 oz drop shot weight, hook about 8 inches above weight.
Do I let it sit, jerk it, drag it???? A little help Oh and what all can you catch on the gulp worm because I picked up the gulp sand crabs. Not sure if those work??

You can fish the camo worms like sand crabs or like you're fishing a grub. Vary your retrieve to see what the fish like.
The GULP! sand crabs never seemed to work out. Some people have caught fish but the worms seem to work much better.
Was that shitty enough for you?

Use a standard Carolina rig with a 1/2 oz egg sinker and at least 8lb fluorocarbon leader(recommended). As for your hook, use a size 6 or 8 mosquito hook by OWNER and thread the 2" Gulp worm down the hook so it comes up your line and covers the eye of the hook.
While you're there, try looking in the surf for live sand crabs and hooking those on for bait!!! or bring some frozen squid or anchovies.

Best time to fish is on the incoming high tide. Usually an hour or two before and after.

Yep, carrolina rig them with a 1/4 ounce slinding sinker above a small swivel, 2' 4# fluro leader to a #4 or #6 red owner mosquito hook with a piece of crack slid up the hook so that the hook is in the middle of the bait.

went today at 5pm to about 8pm. skunked. I got two bites and that was about it. Ay about 6:45 I moved from in front of the jack in the box to the jettie and found some sand crabs as the "crack" wasnt working. Again no luck. Skunked the whole day. Oh well maybe next time.

| Skunked!?
Try a longer leader, I use 24 t0 30 inches, I fish the same general area, usually further north, around 6th street. I have been skunked only 1 time, I usually fish for less than 2 hous at a time. The camo worms are the ticket, I use about 2" and a 4 lb leader, and 6lb spectra mainline, I go very light weight above the swivel. I usually catch several, my best was 11 BSP a croaker or two, usually a couple of short Halibut, my best being 21 inches and I have caught 3 corbs, again 21 inches being best. I don't always shread it up, but geat 5 or 6 mixed bag fish. I retiieve fast enough to keep the line taught, feeel a nibble, BSP, inhale, croaker, bait moves off, hali, tap and run corb, NEVER stand still, unless fish on successive casts, always move!
Sometimes, you will find a school of BSP and you'll get fish on 5 or 6 casts in a row
Surf fishing 1 hr before high tide seems best for all but the corbs

Carolina rig works best for perch, corbina, and what ever roams close to the bottom... Best to use Gulp camoworms in bloodworm or whatever you have..
Throw your bait on the white wash and in the glassy parts of water look for returning Corbina and what not.. IF you want nice Halibut hit the jetties and throw Blams or Swimbaits ( 3 - 5 inch ) White, Green, or Brown colors will work...
As for retrieving live sandcrabs the current will do the work for you. If you use Gulp sandcrabs or worms, retrieve slow a steadily. Drag it on the bottom and pause every few cranks.

thanks guys! I'll try a longer leader and a slow steady retrieval. I was twitching the rod slowly. Cant wait to get back out there tomorrow.
- should I use a drop shot weight with bait above or use the sliding sinker attached to the leader?
