| 5/4 or 4/3 wetsuit?
I am down to the wire on my wetsuit purchase.
I found a Neosport 4/3 for $119 or a Tilos titanium 5/4 for $129.
For our waters, would the 4/3 be warm enough?
I am not worried about the price difference but thinking the thiner would equal more mobility.
Also, should I start with 12 pounds weight? I am 6' 210.
Dave

I dive a 9-7-6 and still get cold in winter.
A 5mm is Summer should be ok.
It all depends on your tolerance and dive time. If you hunt for an hour or more or jsut 20 minutes will make a big difference.
Fit is also a big concern. Too tight in places and you slow circulation and get cold. Too loose and you get cold water running into the suit. You need to try them on and see what fits best.
I like a built in hood. Others hate hoods. Almost everyone hates detatched hoods.
Weight will depend on the suit and the lean muscle vs. fat content of your body.
I know, way more questions than answers but it is different for everyone.
Try em on, figure out when you will be diving (season), for how long per dive and what type of diving (60ft free dives thru a thermo-cline or shallower 20-30 foot dives). When you choose one go play in the surf. Take a belt or harness with 2 five lb weights and a bunch of 2 lb weights. Find your comfortable bouyancy. I like to weight quite a bit less than I SCUBA with so my head floats above water line at the surface.
Just some thoughts.

I use a rip curl 4/3 with an attached hood and works great for late fall spring but I get a little cold in the middle of winter with it. A new 5 mill rip curl fire skin with a hood is perfect for freediving sd in winter..... for me. If you get cold easy than a 6 mill but anything more will be cumbersome.

Also look up Diveskin - Neoprene Creations good custom suits and a really good price.
There are a lot of Freediving/Spearfishing suits available now days. I would not go thinner than 5 mil in California for 8 months out of the year. 3mil will work in the summer. As for weight, it will vary on your body fat, wet suit thickness and the depth you plan on diving that day. I'm about the same height/weight you are so I would start with at least 16lbs and go from there. Good luck.

Here's the link that shows both... Scuba diving gear Wet Suits Temperate Water 60 - 75 degrees at Scuba.com | I dive 2 piece suits. I dive competition, and they are far superior to ANY one piece suit made. Period. For local waters, I would go nothing less than a 5mm suit. The few months where you can squeak by with a 4 mm suit are few, and far between. I mean, yeah, you can dive for an hour or so, and be only a little cold. But I have to dive for 5 hrs straight. And I don't like to be cold. I use a 6mm in winter, and a 5mm in summer. Try a suit from HammerHead Spearguns Tell Kevin Paul sent you. And for a 5mm suit, a bigger boy like you will need to start around 16lb of lead.
