Re: Report card for Spiny Lobsters

They have ZERO ways of tracking how many bugs are taken from recreational hands or hoop net fisherman. They want to police us just like the commercial guys prob. and the 7.90 is to pay the BIG BROTHER. I hope buggin' doesn't end up with the same rules and regs as Abalone in nor cal someday.

Great... I just read the link. Its already happening. Next we will have the badge heavy guy that pops one of us for not filling out the card as we go or something. That same shit happened to my friend up north.

I went to walmart and they didn't have them. Said they didn't know anything about them. Has anyone purchased one yet? I'll have to call around to see who has them.

Re: Report card for Spiny Lobsters

2) The Department proposes a 2008 fee of $7.50 for the new Spiny Lobster Report Card to cover projected monitoring and analysis costs. Presently there is no funding for monitoring and analysis costs for the lobster recreational fishery. The proposed fee will fund processing of the card data, a new sport lobster creel survey, augment existing telephone surveys to collect lobster sport data, provide enforcement measures on the ocean, public outreach and education, and further lobster resource research with the goal of long term sustainability

Right now it is a proposal. I would suggest if the measure passes it will happen the beginning of the 08 season.

Purely speculation on my part.

Re: Report card for Spiny Lobsters

It's not a proposal! It was approved in December and the cards should be available in March. It will take effect next season 08-09.
Fishing license, ocean stamp and bug card about $50, a kid on his 3rd lobster....priceless!

True it has been voted on and approved, the cards will be required in September before the next season and you will have to buy another one in January to get lobster in 2009.

This lobster card is for ANYONE taking lobster. Your kids may not need a license, but they WILL need a lobster card.

Re: Report card for Spiny Lobsters

I'm ok with the card the only thing I don't like about it is the fact you need to fill it out before you go in the water. There are times when I go spearfishing and don't plan on taking a lobster. If I find one and bring it in I'll be in violation since I didn't fill out the card first.

I'd really prefer it to be like the ab card in the fact you don't fill it out until after you have bugs.
