leo carillo dive today... COOL SEAL

a buddy and i went out to leo carillo today, it was kind of surgey and the vis wasn't too good at all on the inside.

we got out to the outside and the vis was about 10-12, we were on one little reef/patch of kelp and there was tons of fish on it, tons of rubber lip mostley, but there was also a seal...

The seal followed me around the whole day, it was a baby kind of, and it would stay really close to me, not going for my fish or ne thing and when i would stop to reload my gun he would turn upside down and play with my fins, at this point i thought he was super cute with his big eyes and chubby little body, so i did something i probably shouldn't have done. I went in to pet him. oohh his name is Ralph by the way don't be mean to him if you see him, he did let me pet him and i probably should have been bit but i didn't so yea thats ralph.

The day was decent maingot got 1 legal bug, and i got limits on rubber lip, water was decently clear, really pretty out, it was a pretty fun day

Re: leo carillo dive today... COOL SEAL

from my years of diving experience, seals are extremely curious by nature and extremely rarely show any signs of agression.

Sea Lions however, can be extremely aggressive and will commonly snap at divers and steal your fish. FUCK SEA LIONS!!! Seals are ok though

Learn to keep those dogs off you, and you will start shooting more than just rubberlip. I admit, I enjoy the company from time to time of the harbor seals....but fuck man, I am there to hunt, not play grabass. And they will shoo off any wsb in the area, so screw the dogs. Leave them for the scuba dudes.

Re: leo carillo dive today... COOL SEAL

not enough vis for ne thing... this was the end of my dive too. i held off on shooting ne thing for the first hour and ahalf, just dove the outer kelp beds looking for a wsb or maybe a big calico or huge sheephead or something, after a while seeing nothing other than huge rubber lip ,and some small sheephead that i had no desire to shoot i decided to at least bag my limit on rubber lip, then ralph came. normal i scare seals away but it was the end of my dive no fish really. and ralphy was pretty damn tight.

Good report, but stop training the seals to be fearless of humans.

Re: leo carillo dive today... COOL SEAL

aaww u guyz are scared of ralph!!! comon now u can always scare a seal away with a good slap on the water or quick movement in their way or something, or worse comes to worse if they are getting too frisky a quick little poke with the end of you spear.

but don't poke ralph just slap the water really hard and he'll go away... at least until he gets older then he won't be cool.

Re: leo carillo dive today... COOL SEAL

and you do have to give them some respect, as much as we hate to admit it you have to understand that you are in their homes, they are faster in the water, they have better breath holds, and they more efficient hunters,i mean lets face it they have been doing it since the day that they were born. Don't get me wrong here its not like i like to swim around with seals, i know they fuck up hunting, but end of the day nothing happeneing didn't really seem like a big deal

Re: leo carillo dive today... COOL SEAL

If I ever meet "Ralph" and it lets me get close enough to pet it ,I will reach out and grab it by the throat choke its ass out and make bedroom slippers out of its furry little ass.beaver beaver

Now if this story were about how you came across a great white and how it rolled over on its side so you could rub its belly, well then, that would probably be the most beutiful thing I would have ever read.
