How much of a difference does it make when using a camo suit? Any input would be helpful. I know that guys who do the open water thing seem to use the blue camo and the green in tight to the rocks and kelp. I guess what I am saying does it really help?
Thanks

that subject has been beaten to death over there more than the "what size sharks should we keep" and "long topshot vs. short topshot" bullshit put together.
far as i can tell there is no definitive answer yet. plenty of guys shoot a lot of fish in black suits, and plenty of guys shoot a lot of fish in CAMO. i think that the people with experience tell you thats its way more about the way you move in the water, keeping your movements slow and calm as opposed to quick and predatory that will let you shoot more fish.

I think many wear them too because they think they look less like a seal in black wetsuits.

I currently use a black suit and have shot a ton of fish in it. I decided to buy a camo suit also. Check out www.bluewaterhunter.com and look at the deep thought reversible wetsuit.
I like to look cool in the water......

If you want the best camo suit out there you should look at the new suits Roger Yazbeck developed. Amazing to say the least. He just got back from baja where he shot a pending world record Pargo while using it. So I guess the pattern is pretty effective. I can't do justice describing all the features in the new design. For more info contact the dive shop 310 374-7333
Here is a post showing Roger, the new suit, and the toad pargo. http://www.spearboard.com/showthread...5&page=1&pp=15
No affiliation with the shop or roger, just on the waiting list for one of their 7 mil models.

From what i understand fish don't have great eye sight and use many different sensory systems to feel the presence of other fish around them. Halibut may have one of the best camo out there, and supposedly uses its camo to ambush fish. But the halibut is also a patient fish that doesn't move until the last second, which leads me to believe that movement in the water has a lot to do with being stealthy. I don't really care so much about camo, but more about the quality, warmth and range of movement.

I wanted the deepthought wetsuit in 3mm for a summer paddy hopping suit and local reef since it is reversible blue and green camo. When the water gets colder I'll be wearing a yazbeck suit in 5mm.

You might be right, but in this case its more than just a pattern its the quality of the materials used to make the suit. Im sure if you had a chance to see one of these suits you might see what I mean. Camo may not do much but in my experiences it has been a benefit, especially while hunting wsb. Its not the color, but more the pattern and how it breaks up your profile. And yes, staying still and stealth like, are key elements in any hunting. The best feature of these suits is the warmth they provide. A little little spendy but by far the best I've seen. My 2 cents take it or leave it.
