S.A.R.L? just jokin as long as you dont tie a stringer full of fish onto your pants or onto a pack to where it is hanging in the water your pretty much safe

ahahhaha everyones being helpful!! except the one telling you your safe anywhere on the inshore . Divers know more than fisherman sharks are everywhere. I have fished and dived my whole life and easily have seen 4x as many sharks in the water than out. But to answer your original question. No theres nowhere thats safer to spearfish than others. Spearfishing and having a fear of sharks doesnt mix at all. You spear a fish it flops and sends vibrations, its a feeding call to sharks. If you go with someone who is experienced you just prepare for sharks and learn that they really arent vicious killers. Just be smart read up and listen to everything anyone has to offer you.

The chance increases when you have a string of fish attached to you. Fortunately the viz is usually so bad that I haven't seen one up close.

Just listen to them and don't have a stringer of fish attached to you and you will be just fine.

Hey new to the board but wanted to put my 2 cents worth in. Let me start with I grew up fishing Southern California 50+ years. I have seen thousands of sharks in my life. The largest shark I have ever seen was a 20+ foot great white less than 100 yards of shore. We were fishing the west end of Catalina we were on the Mustang I think she's 85 feet and and the boat was not big enough. I have heard sharks only like the creamy center of a kayak and always spit out the big yellow bone.

Fillet and Release,
That is a nice thresher in your avatar. Was it speared or caught on hook and line? Thresher meat is outstanding!

Lake Mead out here in Las Vegas is kinda safe from sharks, but the 80 mph Baja boats scare me more that the sharks off Dana Point.

diving inside kelp beds is very safe...larger sharks usually won't go inside kelp areas...most divers never see a large shark in their lifetime...
