| How much weight?
Plan on freediving tomorrow in a 3/2 wetsuit. How much weight do I need to get under the water and not get me too tired through out the dive?

Not really as avid as I would like, but trying to get back in to it again. Thanks for the info. I will start with 6 but I'll bring 8 with me in case I need it.

Alot depends on you. How much do you weigh (your displacement of water), your comfort level, and experience. Be careful not to over weight yourself. Make sure you can dump your weights quickly and easily. Also remember as you go deeper - your wetsuit will lose some of it's bouyancy.

I dive with a 3/2 and use 10 lbs. of weight, but everyone is different. I just prefer to get to the rocks I dive to and be able to stay there as long as I want. Too much can really tire you out if you don't know what you're doing.... try and experiment with what you are comfortable with.

it depends a lot on where you are diving. on the east coast i dive in 10 feet of water for stripers, so you need a lot of weight to stay on the bottom. diving kelp i wear a lot less. in the sea of cortez there is a lot more salt so you need more. bring a bunch and play with it until it is just right. one other note, if you do use a lot of weight and go deep take your belt off and hold it in your hand for the ascent. if anything happens let it sink.

I remember reading somewhere that it was a percentage of your bodyweight. I'm 6'1 165lbs and I wear 18lbs of weights. It's a little heavy but I find it a lot easier to drop down with minimal kicks. I wear a 5mill wetsuit btw

What you need to do is acheive neutral bouyancy at the surface.
With a full breath of air you should be right at eye level to the surface,as you exhale you should start to sink.
If thats you in the avatar I would start with atleast #15 in a 3-2 full suit.

^^^^^^^ Agree!!!
You are going to need at least 12lbs in a wetsuit......... 15lbs should be perfect if you have some experence diving.
