I don't like flopper tips much on a polespear, for one reason: You don't control the shaft the same way you do when you spear with a gun. All your motions are exaggerated by the length and rigidity of the polespear. So, with a flopper, I have actually pushed the shaft, and the flopper closed, and when I pulled back, the flopper stayed down, and I pulled the damn spear right out of the fish!!

Whooped my own ass!!! For halibut, I like to use an icepick, then a 6 point circle tip with barbs( Australian), then a 5 point trident type tip. With the icepick, I shoot at angle if I have any worries about rock under the fish. In sand, I will shoot straight down on them.
