Nothing to be caught but thought i might as well report. Went spearfishing for an hour and a half today out in LJ looking for a halibut but none were found. Probably saw about 200 barred surf perch, 50 or so opaleye, 3 bat rays, and 5-10 calico, but just nothing worthy of shooting at. some of the opaleye looked like theyd be a solid 2-3 pounds...anyone know how they taste? also, visibility was EXCELENT. If was a fun time nonetheless with some good friends looking for the right kind, but oh well, hopefully next time. You guys gotta get out there just for snorkeling even. Tons of life inshore. See ya.

The perch are awesome in the pan. Very sweet tasteing meat, lots of micro bones however.

opaleye taste like absolute shit...but shoot some and take them by your local chinese restaurant or laundromat and they will buy them from you or trade them for dinner.
Our visibility was amazing yesterday, went this morning is was pretty crappy...not tellin what we got.

I have had barred surf perch, blue perch, walleye, opaleye, and they all tasted great to me in the pan. I would not eat them if there were other fish to take, but they do make for a decent meal.
