Shark Warning West Cove

Sounds like the Landlord might be prowling around the west end of Catalina as a girl apparently got knocked out of her Kayak at West Cove this morning. Witnesses fishing the cove heard her yelling and then saw a large tail swirling around her before she was bumped into the water. She was rescued unhurt by another skiff but pretty shaken up.
The details are second hand info but the incident did happen at West Cove.
Be careful if your heading that direction.

It was probably one of those 40+ lb Yellows that are roaming the island.

We were in a good yellowtail bite in that general area, a little more east, last Friday when a 12 to 14 foot great white popped up under the Old No. 7. I was fishing on the MarDiosa and we had called in Jeff on the Old No. 7 as well as the Ultra.

I did not see the shark but Jeff called us and said that he and his passengers did...

Other than Guadalupe, I have never seen so many seals as what I saw last Monday fishing at SBI. Hundreds if not thousands laying on any available beach. Bastards ate a bunch of our seabass too, including one right off the gaff.

I would hope the whiteys are converging on that buffet as well...

Divers have been seeing them on a regular basis this year. I was talking to a DFG agent as he was checking my license and he said they see them much more on the leeward as opposed to the winward side....I think they are just playing with people....
