Harvesting Rock Mussels in Laguna??

I've been off the coast of Laguna a few times free diving for bugs at night and have come across some excellent areas of rock mussels attached to the boilers. Are there restrictions for harvesting the mussels from that area?? I've seen the signs, but don't recall seeing anything about the mussels. I don't plan on eating them either, I want to use them for bait. I know I can harvest from a boat, but was wondering about from shore. Thanks for the info.....

I think they are part of the species you can not take. I would look at the signs before I grabbed them. If you'd like some good big mussels locally where you CAN take them, the pier pilings tend to have a boatload, and the outer edge of Newport jetty/ the wedge has a lot of healthy mussels. Pick on the low tide, or on very calm days.

quarantine starts may 1, dont harvest them in summer months or your gonna get sick.

read the regs first, it will probably answer most of your questions.
