Belize

Got back from Belize a few days ago. Three months ago, I didn't even know where it was. Now, I want to live there. Very Caribbean.

The place to hunt the fish is in the "Cuts" between the inner and outer reefs. Current was usually not too bad. The strange thing is you have to wait until the viz gets bad in order to hunt. I am not use to hunting in 60-120 foot viz. The only time I shot fish is when it got down to 20-30. I managed a 25# Grouper and a 15# Pargo for all my efforts.

One of the neat things was swimming in a cut only to have a Manatee come up to me. Dude was a monster. I thought it was a bull seal when I first saw it. One other time, we were being swept out in a cut and we looked down to see a 200#+ Tarpon.

It took some getting use to was the sharks in the area. I saw two bulls, a galapagos (?) and a bunch of reef sharks. Gotta get in touch with the Miami boys and see how they deals with those critters.

The hostest with the mostest was Jack. A friend of mine from the old days when I was playing in the sand. He has a 3 bed w A/C, internet connection two blocks from the beach for $100 a night. Very very cool pad. http://www.chezcaribe.com/ He will take you out in his boat for between $150-$200 a day. Great deal in my opinion.

Getting there was easy with a stop in Dallas on AA.

All in all a very fun way to spend Spring Break with the kids!

Good reprt. I loved it down there, but the bugs were horrible when we were there. They were the "no see 'em" type that just left a ton of itchiy bites. Did you have any problems when you were down there?

No problems with the bugs. I think it is a time of year issue. I might be wrong, but I think the bugs come out July -October? Just a guess from a conversation I heard....

I was there a year ago last christmas. Bugs were nasty on the beach. Lots of sand fleas that you never saw or felt until after they took a bite out of you and left. Stayed at Capt Morgans on Ambergris Caye. Loved the location. Diving was great, fishing was good, I got kind of bummed when the boat decided to keep a twenty pound sailfish that I caught and asked them to let go. But I dont think they make much money down there and the boat capt needed to eat, so. What can you do?
Great food and loved the viper rum!
