5 day on the American angler

Just got off a 5 day on the Amer. Angler.

Day 1- Scratchy fishing for albacore between 30-45 lbs. Best sign of albacore seen all year......just didn't bite.

Day 2- Benitos- excellent Yellowtail fishing on Fly Line, Yo-Yo, Dropper, Surface Iron, pretty much whatever you threw at them. I personally enjoyed getting up to the bow away from the crowd and throwing Iron for about 4 hours.

Day 3&4- Guadalupe. We went in search of Tuna. There had been sign of Tuna around the other boats there the days preceeding. There was very good sign of Tuna for this time of year.... again not too many biters.
Great Yellowtail fishing at Pilot rock. Paul Yasuhara from the San Diego Deaf Anglers Club snagged a 64lb Yellowfin on the last Bait of the day. I guess not being able to hear "Wind 'em up" paid off. As soon as the engine started the bait flushed out from under the boat and Paul was fightin'.

All fish were put in an Refrigerated Salt Water Tank. For those who don't know what I'm talking about. Fish on a few of the Long Range boats are no longer put into the freeze Brine, coming out like fish popsicles. A RSW tank maintains a 25-30 degree water temp. This provides Sushi grade fish. I saw some of the best Fish yesterday while cleaning. For anyone who give fish to one of the processors, they now accept Frozen and RSW fish

All around a great trip. Excellent Food, Excellent Crew. Brian Kiyohara & Sam Patella have a very fresh attitude on fishing and work hard for the passengers.

It's a whole different kind of season this year, should be interesting to see how it develops. The AA is on my list of boats to try next season, the RSW plays a big part in my decision for a trip next year. I want my fish as fresh as possible.......
