Fall 10-day Holla!!

Well I pulled the trigger and booked my 2nd trip for this year!! A 10 day on the RRIII. Its the Newell/Yo-Zuri sponsored trip Oct. 8- Oct. 18. This will be my first fall trip and the longest one to date. Ive got a lot of prep work to do for the spring 8 day Im on and now a 10 day. Probably wont see any COWS on the trips but look forward to meeting new people and learning a ton of new stuff about LR fishing (and maybe catching some fish too.) I really dont have any questions this time, I just wanted to share my excitement!!!!

Good fishing,
Jeff

P.S Thanks to my future wife, Angie, for the wedding gift in advance!!

Jeff, you're gonna have a blast! And it's not all about the COWS either, IMO variety is what long range is.

Looks like you got one hell of a future wife!!!

Where in Kansas are you from? I'm huge at Pitt State!

Hey Jeff,

Very cool of your future wife to do this but I must warn you........the last trip I went on I found a sign in my garage when I got home that said and I quote

"Fishing rods for sale while the old man is out fishing......cash only"

turns out my wife thought I was on a 15 day and when I got back after only 10 she tried to hide the evidence .....to no avail. Busted......I made her wash my car for her attempt to sell my other 200 rods.

Enjoy your fishing but be careful not to leave anything you may want when you get back lying around......wifes are funny that way

Now then you got you a very nice Wedding gift. You should do the same for the future wife--plus a little extra. You know like her own pole or two.

I took "Yes Dear" fishing for the first time nearly 40 years ago. Now she lets me go with her. You'd be surprised what might happen if your lady was to go with you.

And you can tell her not to worry the guys on that trip a really cool (except this one ol' cranking fart with a pot belly) and she'll have a another women to talk to on board. "Yes Dear" will be there and she's even gonna take the Cranky ol' fart along.

But plan on being there early cause the boat leaves on the THIRD

Jeff, a buddy of mine will be on that trip again for the 4th year in a row. He really likes the Wahoo and that's pretty much the focus of the trip. There's tuna fishing, paddy searching for dodos and Yellowtail on the ridge, at the Rocks and at one of the islands, too, but most of the returning guys are all there for the skins. And as an added bonus, you'll get to fish with John Grabowski, so you'll fish with both skippers: Andy on Coach's trip and then John on the 10 day.

You'll find, I believe, that the tackle requirements for both of your trips are pretty much the same, with the need for a little more terminal tackle for Wahoo for the October trip. I like the dates, good fishing for variety that time of year. I fished early October trips for two years before switching to November for my ten day last year. Lots of fun!

Whats the difference in the size/fish that are normally caught on a Oct. 10 day than ones caught on a November 10 day?

Hey Jeff,
Early in the season....at least the last few years. A Jackpot fish on the early Oct. Trips is around #100-#150. The cool thing about these trips is that they truely fish like the original 10 day trips used to do and that is for variety. Lately the the Nov - Dec. 10 day trips have been all about finding the COW. Now COW's are very cool but you are talking about a great day being 24 people catching 20 fish over #150. There is little fishing for wahoo, yellowtail, small tuna etc. It is all about the COW. So if you want the COW go later....if you want the chance at catching lots of different kinds of fish...you are on the correct trip. You should be prepared for the chance at a Cow...but you don't neccessarily have to have all the normal 17 day trip gear.....ie multiple 50W's etc. loaded with $200 each of spectra etc. Good luck and hope you score big.
