Friedman holds a a BA in History from Loyola Marymount University, reads and writes fluent Spanish and has traveled in Mexico and Central America for over 3 decades. He lived and taught english to the poor in Costa Rica for one year, he lived 6 months in Mexico City and taught English to the people who lived in one Mexico City dump, lived and taught English in Acapulco for three months, and lived and taught English to the Amusgo Indians in Tlacoachistlahuaca, Gro. Mexico for 4 months.
