Steve, this is extremely sad news. The Rooster was my first long range experience and Jorge was a very special part of that. I will be sending good thoughts his way, as well as helping out in any other way I can. Chad

Bad news indeed...I have fished along side him on three trips. Back when Shawn Trowbridge was a deckhand. (Now that shows my age) He is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. Picked up his hoo, cut it up for lunch, all with that smile of his! I hope the best for him and his family. God be with you my friend!

OUr thoughts and certainly a donation will be on the way. Jorge is a fighter, what some may not know, he was inducted into the Ensenada boxing hall of fame last year.
My thoughts go out to him and his family. A WONDERFUL man with a stunning sense of humor.
The Rooster has been my only "mini" longe range trips, have done several over the past 4 years.

Man, I was on a 10 day more than 10 years ago and I can still remember what a great guy he is. On that trip John Grabowski threatened to keel haul another passenger for bitching to Jorge about not being a trained chef or something stupid like that. During the exchange John said that Jorge was the friendliest most even tempered man he ever knew. Very sad news I hope treatment is able to help him.

I'll always remember my first ever five day back in '99. It was on the Red Rooster III, and Jorge is a big part of those memories. He taught me that if I were going to pace myself anywhere on the trip, it did not need to be on deck with the fishing, it needed to be in the galley. I've had the pleasure of his compnay on three other trips since then, all of them winners thanks in part to him. I recall a scratchy trip when we got a jig strike and I was working on breakfast. I said I think I'll finish my meal and then go fish. He grabbed my plate away from me and said, "I'll keep this warm for you. The way this trip is going, this may be your only chance to catch a fish. I'm going to cook lunch later." And he finished it off with a smile and a wink. |
