Boats with RSW on a 5-7 day

Thinking about jumping on a medium length trip this fall and wanted to know which boats use RSW exclusively on trips 7 days and under. I believe the Royal Star uses only RSW on trips 7 days or less, any others?

American Angler uses the RSW on all trips

The San Diego 3/4 day boat uses RSW all the time, seriously. I know that doesn't answer your question but pretty cool anyhow.

The Top Gun 80. Great crew, excellent captain. Fish stayed chilly in the Reefer (rsw).

Did this change recently? Last year they had spray brine.

The RSW fish is somewhat like fish in the refridgerator at your house-it will spoil. So on trips over 6 or 7 days, they start out with the fish going into a spray brine well, freeze those bad boys.
So on a 10 day trip, after 3 or 4 days, they will most likely offer an option:RSW or frozen. Even on 17 dayers, as long as they don't fill up too quick, you might have that RSW option.

I fished with those guys a couple weeks ago and talked to the skipper (relief). We talked at length on the very subject. He told me they have an rsw, unless he lied to me.

I fished the Rooster on the dec/jan 8 trip this year. There was no mention of having both. What boat(s) give either option? Just curious.

Re: Boats with RSW on a 5-7 day

You'll find that there's a lot of "management" of the fish holds, especially on the longer trips. At the beginning of the trip, depending on the length, all of the slammer/fish holds may be empty. Then it's time to take on bait. During the shorter trip season, one of the holds may be full of water, RSW, if it was not used on the previous trip, if they did not plug the boat. If that's the case, obviously RSW is available immediately. If not, it takes quite a bit of time to chill that volume of water down to 30 degrees so you may start out the trip with spray brine in one of the fish holds. Not bad if you're catching Yellowtail, as they hold up just fine, although better with RSW. As the trip progresses and the deck tanks need to be replenished, the crew will transfer bait from one of the slammers until it is empty. They will then flush it and fill it with water and chill it down. Then it can be used for RSW. If you're on a longer trip that has to travel a couple of days to get to the fishing, like an 8 day to the Rocks, there's plenty of time to get the RSW ready for the first fish of the trip. Like I said, lot's of management.

Re: Boats with RSW on a 5-7 day

Royal Star has RSW and seems to have it down! They treat fish that come on board like GOLD. I am glad not to be a crewmember as they have a lot of extra work to do to keep my fish in prime condition. The dock treatment seems to be almost like reverence to keep the fish from bruising. I am not sure of spots open, but these guys do their best to give you a quality product.
