No Salary Cap in Long Range Fishing

I like it. If an owner with a little more capital wants to offer the money as an incentive, how much talent could one boat put together?

Independence went to the free agent market to snatch up Jeff DeBuys and the Intrepid has just done a round of acquisitions as well. With a couple of key positions filled by crew members from other boats in the fleet, it's an "expansion" team. And now Randy, Tim, and Brian are cutting it three ways and the anglers are the winners.

Re: No Salary Cap in Long Rnage Fishing

Speaking of free agents and trading deadlines, I see Jim Lilly is no longer part of the team with Intrepid. Confirmed with an email from Carol:

"Yes! We had to move ahead! Look forward to seeing some new names. The boat is going in to final procedures . Look for new pics on website in the next few weeks. Things are going forward."

Somebody must have pissed off the wrong person. I wonder who pissed off who?

Get your facts straight, some are cut, not snatched.

Great idea. Pay them vs force them to live off of the jackpot and tips. What a country

What about Intrepid? You're connected to the information superhighway down there. What's next?

Re: No Salary Cap in Long Rnage Fishing

I just spoke with Carol re Lilly leaving the Intrepid. Really bad news, I was looking forward to fishing with him, great guy to fish with when he was on the AA. They have yet to replace him but are talking with several guys she said.

Re: No Salary Cap in Long Range Fishing

I have fished with Tim, Randy, Brian Sims and (newly departed) Brett Roundtree. I missed Brian when he left to skipper the Q105 I welcome him back. He was a great deckhand, nice guy and would give you some talk time to teach you when he could. I fished a trip where Brett was a passenger - he is a god of fishkilling! He was a great skipper/engineer/deckhand. When he gaffed your fish it was on deck!
Tim and Randy have a way of getting great crewman year after year except one yrar that I can remember. They are tough on fishermen and crewmen when they are not happy with you. Each year they get my money for one reason - we get fish every time. I am down already for 2008!

From Royal Star's website. Current conditions, 5/11

"We will sorely miss Captain Brett Rouintree's invaluable contribution's to Royal Star as he takes a break from the world of long range sport fishing to serve as chief engineer on a offshore albacore fishing vessel....."
