American Angler

The Angler is returning from a 10 day on this coming Wednesday (10/11) with an estimated eta of around 8:30 am. A very good friend of mine is on this trip and I usually take a half day off work to help him cut fish. This time I'm thinking of taking the whole day off and watching the boat arrive. So far, the main catch has been a wide open wahoo bite on day 3. Is anyone else planning on being down there? If so, maybe we can hook up and BS.
They haven't posted today's report yet but you can follow along on what's going on here:

Hi Steve, have a buddy also on the same trip, SteveK. Saw the 1st day picture & report. He is the second from the left with his whoo. It appears its been a bit rough out there fishing wise. I hope not for eveyone's sake. They were suppose to head back too the rocks last nite an fish there today. Want to meet him also but taking the 10day on the RP leaving Sat. if I have time will go down. Will be the old fart in my BD T-shirt.

Re: American Angler

Yeah, I did very well. Two on bait, three on the bomb, no troll fish for me. The boat had fifty the first day on the 13 and everybody on the boat got to catch one due to a little creative editing on the trolling teams by Sam.

Bill Salyer - bald guy with a goofy straw hat and about $20k in tackle. I wasn't able to make it down to the boat due to family issues but did hook up with Bill at his place and helped him cut fish. It was pretty much a weak trip as far as the catching goes but Bill said the passengers and crew were great.

I know Bill, fished with him on the trip last year, too. I don't know that you could classify the trip as weak. We caught a lot of fish. Many (most) of the Dorado were released. We did not catch near the volume of tuna we got last year, nor did we get the quality, but the Wahoo fishing was crazy off the charts. It was also a good trip for trophy Yellowtail. I'm not sure what you mean by weak? Are those your words or Bill's?

Bill was specifically after tuna over 100 lbs - it was great that you guys got a lot of hoo, tails and dodo's but I know Bill was disappointed by the lack of larger tuna. I wasn't trying to bag on your trip!

Re: American Angler

As far as bigger tuna goes, this trip was a bit of a dissapointment, but we had good chances on those on the same trip last year. JP fish were 124, 106, and 97 lbs. I don't recall if Bill got a big one last year or not. He's a blast to fish with and so is his runnin' mate, Doug. The two of them are planning a 16 day in '08; that ought to produce for them.
