| My trip of a lifetime, additional comment on the Q 6/24-7/2/06 eight days trip Yes, I was very fortune to have the trip of a lifetime and I am rather glad that I did not get pull over board by the big Tuna. Even though compared to the real cows weighting 200-300+#. My fishes were only weighted in the low 100’s. Being 112#/5’3” & inexperienced on LR fishing, they were monsters as far as my concern. The kite fishing was hot with the squid bait. It was getting bit every 3-5 minutes. However, when it’s my turn. All the candy baits were gone. So, I was on the kite, standing with the harness/fighting plate for 3 ½ hours mostly watching others catching fishes on baits. Finally, a 15-18# Dorado took the bait. Then it was a while…. Everyone including myself was getting tired of watching the kite. All of a sudden the kite bait finally got bit. As I was winding/line got tight, I did not except the initial impact especially with a buttoned down drag. I was quickly pulled toward the boat rail. I then decided to get low /down to the deck/have an emergency stop. (I seems had left skip marks on deck by the boots) I still can remember hearing people yelling: “Grab her !" On the other note, I did not expect I would be on the kite for such long time. I actually got sun- burn that afternoon. Well, the patience did pay off, I boated a 100#Yellow Fin Tuna. Thank to Brian let me borrowed an OTS-XS boat harness. Thus allowed me a fighting edge with the big fishes. Thanks again to all deckhands for their guidance. I would not have boated the big fishes w/o their help and encouragement. Although few people got bit on 50# line through out the trip, I’d a hard time getting bit on 50#. I ended up hooked/landed all the fishes on 40# line except for two Yellowtail’s. One was on a 60# dropper loop and the other was on a 30# with a blue/white surface jig. On a personal note, ever since I started learning to fish in ’98. This was my first long-range (4+ days) trip. This trip was also my first time using a harness/fighting plate, kite fishing and first time saw a real live Wahoo plus landed it. The trip also yielded the second Dorado I ever caught. As well as the second hooked Marlin. Prior to the trip, my personal best was a 39.9# Yellowtail on a 1/2 day local trip. On this trip, I had limits of Yellowtail 20-30#, one 40#Yellow Fin Tuna, three 50-65#Yellow Fin Tuna, one 122# Yellow Fin Tuna on bait, an appox.100#Yellow Fin Tuna /a Dodo on the kite and a trolled 60# Wahoo. I also hooked a 175-200# Striper. After the fish had six jumps racing from stern to bow within seconds. I buttoned down the drag to pop it off before the Marlin saw off anyone else’s right kind of fish. I enjoyed very much just about everything during the trip, food, snack salty fresh air, beautiful ocean... I learned a great deal from many on board. As I’m very passionate about fishing/truly motivated to learn/building skill. I welcome the opportunity for improvement as always. I'll post/add pictures to my gallery when available.
