| Re: Borrow a 50s or 50 SW, exchange for my gear
I encourage you to look at the reports from this trip for the last two years. Then decide if you need anything heavier than 50 or 60 lb for the tuna you'll encounter. I guess ya gotta have 80 or 100 lb for trolling those wahoo plugs. I'm going with a 30S for 80 lb short wind-ons and a 30SW with 100 lb for trolling. LAst year's JP fish on my trip were caught on 50 and 60 lb and the biggest was about a buck and a quarter. I was #3 with a 97 lb Yellow Fin Tuna caught with a TLD20II and 50 lb. There was one cow taken on my trip at the rocks; at least it would have been a cow if the shark had not eaten 15 lbs out of it with one bite! But that was a freak, and nobody was fishing heavier line. We did use some 80 and 100 lb outfits to fish fresh dead squid with balloons, but everybody used the boat's kite rigs. I managed the second heaviest fish of the trip on the kite as well as the #3 JP fish. It went a buck thirty five.
I just don't think those cows are gonna show up that early, but ya never know, do ya?
