The straight scoop

Right from the mouth of the skipper, direct via cell phone.
The rig Taka Tanaka used to catch 10 fish over 200 on one trip: 6 to 8 feet of 150# flourocarbon.
Shoot, that'll never work, will it?

Re: The straight scoop

Congrats to those guys. Impressive. I know that Jamie - FishorDie that was on that Excel trip that I went on had at least 7 or 8 cows to his name...I heard the Independance did quite well and could have a nice high number. I wonder what the real max load of #200's these boats can take. On our trip we had #78 over two but we did not keep that many under two (maybe 10 - 15) and our holds were plugged. Is 100 over 2 even possible?

Realistically, no. There is a way, but I'm not putting it out here.

Re: The straight scoop

Congrats to Taka, he really deserves a catch like that. I must go by and say goodbye to Taka and his wonderful wife Katie prior to my move.

Funny thing here though, I personally remember Taka telling me a couple years ago how not to many people on a boat would like me for fishing short toshot methods. He was still at the time a 100 yard topshot guy, guess not anymore

Re: The straight scoop

I knew that my 12-15 footers were too long!!!! Just think of all of the flurocarbon we have been wasting. I am glad I saw this before tying the next batch as I just bought some today.

Me too. Going to get 6 out of a 30 meter coil now instead of 4.

Your killing me Garry .

Re: The straight scoop

Changed my mind. I'm going to fish .5' of Flouro just enough to tie it in 130#. Also I'm going to fish .2' of 150# Flouro just enough for a crimp.

So I should get about 214 top shots give or take 83 out of one 30 meter coil. Stoked.

I think everyone should do exactly the same so we can start a stampede in the galley. :taurus: :goodnevil

Re: The straight scoop

Hey Brad, I got 7 top shots out of the 130 pound flurocarbon pack. That should go well with the other 25 or so in the 150 to 250 pound line. (I have had lots of time on my hands recently). I don't think I will go to your extreme though.
