Sleeves and some knots are good...Jinkai or Seven-Strand crimpers don't get more simple and reliable...and don't try to recreate the wheele.

I used regular crimpers for years, but If these crimpers don't let you under or over crimp, Basil thinks they are good, I would rather have a better wheel, same with the sato crimps. http://www.sportfishingmag.com/artic...categoryID=327 |

Just like any other piece of tackle out on saltwater, you've got to take care of it. WD40 or Corrosion-X anyone?! Hello! The tool has 6 positions, you get a great value and a precision crimper that takes the guess-work out of making a proper crimp no matter what size you require for mono, cable, or wire. NOT to be confused with a sato crimper! Check out the article in the link above for a good lesson on crimping.

Crimping is a very interesting topic. I have not tried the Braid crimpers, but I'll get a set to try out. I crimp all of my trolling lures and would crimp or use an Irwin knot on any mono over 80#.
It's been my experience that it's pretty hard to "overcrimp" if you use the right size crimps and the right size hole on the tool. I have seen people use the electrical style crimpers ) to ) versus ( to ) (like on the Braid crimper). If one were to use the other style, it's very easy to overcrimp. If you use two crimps or the oversized ones (Momoi), then you're pretty safe as it's a bitch to pull the line out from them.
The other thing that is common is when someone crimps the edge of the crimp onto the mono and it cuts the line (don't have any pictures here at work).
I find crimping easy when at home and a pain in the ass on the boat during a bite. Since my knot tying skills could use some improvement, I crimp when I can. The best thing that I've seen recently is the ring and grommet (used to be made by Area Rule. These take the place of spring protectors and the stainless loop protectors. Very simple to use and strong as shit. I also use a flemish loop on my trolling hooks to double the line.
Ordering a Braid crimper now!
Mark

| Re: braid HD crimper Basil perhaps I wrote my last post in a confusing way, I have the braid HD crimper and a sato crimp kit I was just saying that both systems are better wheels for what they do, I know they are for completely different purposes. I appreciate your knowledge and I'm glad you joined the thread.

I don't think any of Braid's products are overpriced in any way. They are a great tool (the crimpers), yes, they will rust if you don't take care of them.
Want to talk about overpricing, how about we take a basic Megabait style jig, call it some new name, like, after a moth or something, and get this new mystique going, and charge THREE times as much!
Sorry for the threadjack, just hate to see Dennis get slammed un-necessarily. Dennis is a great guy, helps me out a bunch, eager to share secrets.

Looked bad to me. Maybe I need a bigger vocabulary huh? I don't know what heinously means.

Mark, These crimpers are easy to use even in a big sea. Since the ratchet allows you to sneak up on the crimp, the jaws will stay in place while you locate the sleeve. Even if the boat is slammin, with a little practice you can set the jaws so the sleeve will be firm inside the slot but you will still be able to center it. Once you have it located just squeeze. Piece of cake and only takes a minute for a perfect crimp.

I want a pair.
He is so generous with his give aways and contributions. I would not be surprised if I acquired one in the near future.
Wow we are almost back to normal conversations. I remember those days.
