Speaking of topshots

Swifty is going to be giving a couple of seminars on spectra to mono connections at Fisherman's Landing tackle day this Saturday. Hope to see you there. I'll be at the Seeker booth most the time.

Re: Speaking of topshots

Re: Speaking of topshots

OOOO I want to get some Swifty Glue...

Yah Nelz lets scratch the paddle also Choate can make the Tackle Day but tight on time for dawn patrol and it will probally be cruddy.

Oh those interested if you want to see a demonstration on how to fish short top shots efficiently and adjustments that can or should be made come on down there will be a guest speaker (Seeker pro staffer) teaming up with a bad ass LR skipper on stage.

SAGE my 4 minute demo last night was not enough .. Dude I still feel bad Nelz we just did not have time to meet up one last time after you got the crimps and tools. I almost feel like that was my fault for not explaining it. I should have brought it up before departure.

Re: Speaking of topshots

Brad no worries...
Gary Sato spent over an hour talking to me about what might have happened..
it not a failure on his system or the glue or the way i did it.. he said one crimp is fine, some choose to do two 1" apart...

simply a failure on my part by NOT changing out the topshot..
he said, ONE short topshot per big fish...plain and simple..

mono and flouro under "red line" situations(the way he explained some serious pulling) has it's limits.. mono and flouro stretch and under extreme red lining and will lessen the diameter and it might not come back to it's original diameter.. slipping might have occured..

3 cows on one short topshot was my bad..
got the first one, burnt the length of the fish off..
my dad got one, that i totally forgot about him getting it on that reel..
fished it the unfortunate third time and it finally failed..

straight pulling doesn't help, but normally 150# can handle that..
lesson learned, mark my words it will never happen again.. Flouro is cheap when you're talking about hooking a memorable fish...
if you don't count the hook pull on 40# test, and losing this one from using a topshot 3 times, my dad and I are also batting a 1000 on big fish with SHORT TOPSHOTS(22' ones too).. we followed exactly what Brad said about using the drag properly

Re: Speaking of topshots

Such a rad system talk about a SANO rig..... Yah 1 big fish change it out, it is my fault dam it I don't think I ever said that .... Pressure is near the fish so going short probably puts allot of pressure on that area, stretch slip, or what ever.

Call me later both of you .
