| Royal Polaris 5 day trip report
Just returned from a july 9-14 trip heres the report
Roy Rose is skipper on this trip, we head to the bait recievers and get a decent batch of bait, we leave in calm seas but a good breeze 15+. by dinner time Roy stops the boat to let us eat because the weather had picked up a good bit by then. There was 14 rental rod sets on the boat, and maybe 10 people who had never saltwater fished before.
july 10th we come into the albie grounds and have a great day on nice grade albies 25+ average with a few 40's in there. we end up with 425 albies on the boat day one.
july 11th we get to guadalupe and are instantly on a school of big yellow tail 35# to 40#, we land maybe 20 for the boat and the school totally shuts down 5 mines after starting, while roy is still marking alot of fish. we move on down to another spot and anchor up for what would be a 6 or 7 hour stop, on 18-30# yellow tail, i got 4 or 5 by lunch then came back out 2 hours later and got 4 more. we ended up with 300 yellows for the boat for the day. a 80-90# tuna was picked up off the kite, but thats the only tuna for the day, we saw them boiling here and there but couldnt get any, Roy had planned to stay at guadaulpe for 2 days but he was satisfyed with the Yellowtail on the boat and wanted to get us on some bluefin so we leave guadalupe after dinner and the weather opens up right after we leave the protection of the island.
july 12th we get into bluefin about 170miles from point loma and make drifts picking up on excellent grade bluefin all over 30# with one in five going 45-50#. we end the day with 100 bluefin which everyone was pleased with, we also picked up maybe 20 yellow fin all 15-20# though. 2 dorado were also picked up, one nice bull, the other a small hen. we were going to head back to the albie grounds but there was bad reports from the other boats so we stay for more blue fin,
july 13th. didnt produce much, 2 or 3 yellow tail for the whole day, no Blue Fin Tuna, called it a trip at 3pm and headed into a heafty swell into about 10 or 11pm when it calmed down
july 14th get off the boat at 6am and KATANA greets me at the docks (he opened up the store late the night before the trip so i could get some last minute tackle and BD shirts) over all it was a great trip, cought alot of fish and met some really interesting people.
I would fish the Royal Polaris again in a heart beat.
I WILL TRY TO GET SOME PICS POSTED, A FRIEND SAID HE WOULD SHOW ME HOW TODAY OR TOMORROW SO JUST CHECK BACK. THANKS

| Nice job, great trip
I knew somebody was going to get some Blue Fin Tuna pretty soon. I guess I was a week early. Oh well, glad they bit for you. Hopefully, that is a sign of good things to come.

that spot where you guys were posted up was the area where the bigger school was for sure, our bite went wide open then then vanished so we went looking and came into a smaller school, of yellows who were nailing my 60# yo-yo outfit all day, you had to get the fish in asap because the tangles were all over the place. i saw you guys at anchor there for a while and figured it was WFO for you. i dont recall seeing any other boats around did you TERRY C, Roy mentioned that the excel was around and so was the american angler i guess they were on the other side. did you see the tuna boiling around you?, anyone hookup?. hope you got into some of the albie action on the way out, it was a nice way to start a trip.

Yeah I thought we slammed the albies the first day till I saw your counts we had about 270 I had 5 before the first troll. We did see the tuna crashing at the lupe and did get one in the 80's on the flyline sardine 40lb test it was quite the battle the guys a good fisherman that caught it he got worked. The American Angler set up for the night as we were leaving. The other side of the Island is seldom fishable from what I understand. We went looking for Mr. Bluefin the next day end up filling our albie limits and 7 more real nice paddy yellows oh and 2 dodo's

Hey Ole,
Make sure you get me the dates of your trip. I'll make the run down and you can hand me a breakfast burrito!
