im gonna tell you what i use, and i was taught this by the crew of the royal star, so all the old guys who are gonna give me shit for giving you advice can feel free to just shut the fuck up.
use a surgeons loop (5 wraps) and make sure you use a TON of line for the loop because your going to tie the hook on with a double san diego.
then tie your weight onto the free end with either a palomar or a double san diego again.
i like the hook tied to the loop because it gives you better strength, two lines instead of one.

also, it "SEEMS TO ME" that you get better feel tying to hook to the loop because the shock of the fish biting dosent get muted through the weight, it goes straigt to your rod tip.

I think most people have realized that the old standard dropper loop knot rates at only 70% when pulled on off-center and have gone to the surgeons loop. When tieing the surgeons loop I will go through eight times instead of five, which could also be called the rose knot. This is one of the knots I will be talking about in the upcoming hands on rigging get together(if we ever get our shit straight). Instead of a double san diego, I use a palomar to tie the hook on with. A good knot, when you have two pieces of mono comeing out of it. If this rig is going to break it will be at the surgeons knot.
You could go one step further and tie a bimini instead of the surgeons, that is tending towards overkill though, at least for yellowtail.

Thanks for the feedback... I always felt that my DL knots weren't very strong, have had a few break, even when puliing tight and testing.
I like the idea of the Bimini.... BUT how does that work in the DL line scheme??? Where is the tag end for the sinker????

Cool, thanks Bruce. It sure is nice having you around. I replied earlier, but it didn't stick or go through for some reason.
Doesn't matter, one of the guys I look up to for answers has confirmed my ideas. I didn't know about using a Palomar in that instance, but that's good to know.
I just don't fish dropper loop hardly at all. If I can't get them to bite the yoyo, I sit down.

Hi David!
Yeah the palomar works great for connecting the hook to the loop. The trick is to make sure that both legs of the loop are even when you cinch up the palomar.

You are way too kind. I like them to lick the surface plug best. Even just a boil with a little wolfpack following is pretty exciting.
But I put my time in yoyoing, until I feel I'm not bringing it up to speed to get a bite. That youngster Brad ZZZZZ kicks my ass though.

Gettin' a little sensitive aren'tcha? What happened kid? Someone piss in your cornflakes again?
It happens that I agree with you except that I use a couple more turns through on the knot. ( About 6 to 8 depending on line size.)
FISH HARD!
