| 10 day trip planning for Nov 05
Well guys I have been away from So Cal for some time now, been down here in Louisianna since Nov. Been fishing out of Venice twice in March, decent trips but that is another story (let me know if anone wants any info on fishing down here). I was looking at buying a new Sailfish 23 CC, but my wifes minivan died. So I traded it in and bought her a Nissan Titan Club Cab (sweet ride). Any way she offered me the oportunity if a life time for my boat sacrifce and encouraged me to take a trip I always wanted too.
So that leads me and my fishing budy looking into a 10 day Nov trip out of So Cal. I am looking for recomendations of boats to go on. Here is what I want in a boat hard working captain with a solid crew and good fishing room (not too crowded).
My previous longest trip was a 5 day trip to the lupe last fall. I am looking for recomendation on must have rigs, other than what I already have.
Ex4/0 100lb spec and 60 lb top shot (not sure if it would be wise to bump up to 80lb on a stock reel or would it be better to get it blueprinted for 80??? is 80 the main rig on these trips)
diawa sldII 30 80lb spectra 50 lb top shot
tor20 65lb spec and 40 top shot
(a few 30 lb rigs would I even need to bring one for bait???)
any need for the big flouro 60 or 80???
I know I am lacking a solid 80lb rig, do the boats have decent 80lb rental/loaner tackle? I'd rather get a few days more fishing than a new rig, if at all possible.
Jay

Hey Jay
I've done a 10 day for the last 5 seasons and will be on the "Red Rooster 111" this Oct. for another. In my opinion there are a lot of good boats offering 10 fall fishing. I choose the Rooster because she's fast, comfortable, and seems to always put us on the bite. The meals are good - but not as gourmet as some boats. I don't go to eat I go to fish!
Don't worry about bringing to much heavy gear, you can borrow a boat rod for trolling. Having your own trolling rig is an option, not a necessity. The main squeeze on a 10 day is 40 lb. I keep 4 40lb rigs ready to go on the side of the house. you want them to be something you can cast live bait, wahoo bomb, or yellowtail iron with. I also keep 2 small 2 speeds ready to fish live bait for when the larger fish show up.
These 10 fall trips are not really cow chasers. They are an over all fishing experience. I.E. working your way down the "ridge" for good yellowtail and smaller yellowfin tuna - nothing over a buck forty, a buck fifty, and wahoo.
The main destination seems to always be Alios rocks unless there nothing going on down there. Picking one of the top boats is important in this aspect, because you want to be on a boat that is in the information loop.
I practice a lot of catch and release on my trips, because in the beginning I always brought home more fish than I could use.
Good luck to you, better look into booking pretty soon if your planning on fishing this year, most of the main boats are already full and taking standby lists for this year.
Tight lines...............<*)(((><

| 10 day Red Rooster Charkbait trip 2 -12 Nov
Well I bite the bullet and my buddy and I got on the 10 day charkbait trip on the red rooster 2 -12 Nov. Is there any one else from BDecks on this trip?
I called around and most trips were already booked full. So when I found the charkbait trip for 2200 with two open spaces I had to jump on it. Let the count down begin, this is going to be the long summer waiting for this trip.
BTW, I owe my wife big... Our 14th annerversary is on 7 Nov, and she supports the decision on this trip. I plan on taking her into New Orleans for a dinner and a night out before we go fishing. I am a very lucky man to have her as a wife, especialy since she understands and supports my addiction to tuna fishing.
Mathew Thanks for the info...
Mots,
It's been awhile since I have been online much. I have been traveling alot for work, and I have not had much free time. I miss the local fishing in so cal, yeah La fishing is awesome but most of the inshore stuff is shallow water and the fight is short lived even with the big reds.

I fished the Charkbait Charter last year. It's a pretty good group. There are a variety of folks on it as it's an open chrter. Look for some travel all the way south to below the Spud in search of Big Yellowfin. Along the way there are the Stones as well as numerous high spots on the ridge like the 13 and the Thetis Bank. Andy and the gang will treat you right. Keep your offshore 40-60 lb tuna outfits rigged up and ready to go until it's over. Those guys are relentless, putting us on the best bite of the trip at sundown on our last day of fishing. They never give up.
Best thing is to have good weather to look for something floating that may hold Dorado and Wahoo. Good luck, planning it is almost as much fun as fishing it. I decided on an earlier trip this year, October 2-12 on the Angler. we'll get together and compare notes.
